It’s February in LA LA Land, sunny and clear but too cold for this tropical girl. However, I will never get tired of the city views. Los Angeles is full of so much history. It is a popular destination for tourists who are searching for unique opportunities. So when people want to get away from the hustle and bustle of their busy commutes, they should think outside of the box and consider something different.
Last weekend Tyler and I went to OUE Skyspace, it gives tourists and locals a fun-filled experience that will be quite memorable. I have been to the one in Chicago and NYC, they all pretty wonderful.
OUE Skyspace is located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It’s at the US Bank Tower on West Fifth Street. There is parking in the underground structure or you can park at a local lot and walk to this location. It’s also not too far from the Pershing Square Red Line Station.
When you arrive, you’ll go up one level to the ticket booth to check in. After that, you’ll go through a security screening before being escorted up to the 71st Floor. You’ll walk through a gift shop and then saunter past some historic time-lapse footage of Los Angeles. The infinity mirror elevator shaft was pretty neat and it provided a great photo opportunity for people who like that artistic feel.

Of course, people come here for the thrill of soaring high above the city. When you head over to the slide, they will give you a burlap type of carpet to sit on. Place it underneath you, hold onto the handles, and scoot forward. Don’t look down because you’ll freak yourself out! Just keep moving forward and soon you’ll be off on your journey. It’s quick and a little wild but still worth the ride!
The first time I went down the slide, it was a bit intimidating because I didn’t know what to expect. You basically push yourself down (go at your own pace, essentially) and you quickly shift direction and slide to the right. So I would highly suggest gripping the handles of the padding you are sitting on and steer your way down the slide. The first time was so fast, I was mostly on my right side the whole entire time. It wasn’t the most comfortable experience, if not somewhat painful. So I decided to try the second time and it was quite exhilarating. What was helpful was to go with friends who were absolutely terrified. And because it wasn’t my first rodeo, and I say this is in jest, I was able to provide tips as to not have the same experience as my first slide down.
Once you exit the slide, enjoy the view of The City of Angels! It goes on for miles and miles! Plus, when you gaze back at the slide, you’ll realize that it wasn’t scary after all. It goes by pretty quick and it feels a bit like riding a slide at the park. The only difference is that it’s much smoother and the views are much better than your neighborhood playground.
OUE Skyspace is a great addition to the Los Angeles skyline! I love when the day turned into night it feels so romantic yet beautiful, I would have stayed longer if I was wearing warmer clothes or maybe some parka.
- Check with the weather forecaster and try to go on a clear day (ie. no rain, but windy means no fog or haze).
- You will get a 360 view of the city but better try to go at sunset, as you know nothing can beat golden hour in LA.
- Don’t wear high heels (little heels is ok) when you are going for a ride, you might have to take it off.
